Maven is one of the powerful java build tool and makes you easy to build any java project. Maven uses xml for writing build file (pom.xml). Moven provides useful project information for example Unit test reports, Dependency list and etc.. Now let us see the steps to install maven on windows 8?
Step 1 : Download the latest version of maven (here maven 3.2.2)
Maven 3.2.2 requires JDK 1.6 or above where as Older version 3.0 / 3.1 requires JDK 1.5 or above.
Step 2 : Download JDK 1.6 or latest, and extract the jdk installer to any folder (in our e.g. C:\Java\jdk1.8.0_05) , which is required to run maven.
Step 3 : Add or update the JAVA_HOME environment variable in windows. For this Press (Windows Key + R), then type control sysdm.cpl,,3 in the run command box, then Ok.
Now click on Environment Variables which will open the below window and add JAVA_HOME variable as given below.
Step 4: Extract the downloaded maven binary zip file to any folder (in our eg. F:\Maven) which will create a folder apache-maven-3.2.2 inside F:\Maven
Step 5 : Add MAVEN_HOME variable as we did for JAVA_HOME variable.
Step 6 : Set Path variable for Java and Maven so that OS can find its executable from any path on the command line.
Now Maven setup is complete. To check the installation, open the command prompt (Windows Key + R) -> type cmd and press enter. In the command prompt, enter
